Policies for Undergraduates
Wait Lists: If you cannot find an available appointment, you may be added to our waiting list by calling (585)-273-3584 or stopping by the Writing and Speaking Center (WSC) office, Rush Rhees Library, room G-122.
Cancellations: If you need to cancel an appointment, please do so BEFORE the scheduled session. As a courtesy to other students and the tutor, please cancel at least a few hours in advance.
Timeliness: Students are expected to be on time for WSC appointments. If you are more than 10 minutes late, the tutor will contact the student on the waiting list and offer them the appointment. So, if you are running late for your appointment, we ask that you call our office (585-273-3584) to let us know you are on your way.
Appointment Limit: Three per week. Back-to-back sessions with the same tutor are not permitted.
Standing Appointments: The Writing and Speaking Center offers standing weekly or biweekly appointments for students who would like to meet with the same consultant on a regular basis. Our Center is funded to serve students in the College. For this reason, only students, faculty, and staff from SAS and HSEAS are able to pre-arrange semester-long standing appointments. We are happy to support writers from other areas across the University when we have open and available appointments. To request a standing appointment, email stefanie.sydelnik@rochester.edu.
Policies for Graduate Students
In order to be able to use our online scheduling tool, you must first be added to our database. Please call (585)-273-3584, stop by the Writing and Speaking Center office (Rush Rhees Library, room G-122), or email the Writing and Speaking Center office: wsap@ur.rochester.edu
Please note that the Writing and Speaking Center was created for undergraduates. Occasionally, if we have undergraduates on a waiting list, we may ask that you reschedule an appointment. However, scheduled graduate student appointments will not be given to undergraduates.
Back-to-Back Appointments: Due to the nature of most graduate writing projects, graduate students may schedule back-to-back appointments with the same consultant (for a total of two hours). This longer block of time allows the writer and the consultant to engage in a greater range of tutoring activities, including writing during the session.
Wait Lists: If you cannot find an available appointment, you may be added to our waiting list by calling (585)-273-3584 or stopping by the Writing and Speaking Center office, Rush Rhees Library, room G-122.
