Biography
Catherine Schmied Towsley joined the Writing, Speaking, and Argument Program in 2014 and serves as an instructor for First year writing (105), Communicating your professional identity courses (27x) and the English for Academic Purposes Program (EAPP). Prior to WSAP Catherine worked as a school counselor (K-12), and as a career counselor and an academic advisor at the college level. She attended Cornell University and received a Bachelor of Science in industrial labor relations, followed by a master’s degree in counseling and human development from Vanderbilt University and a Master’s degree in writing from Belmont University. Her Doctorate degree is in counseling and human development from University of Rochester. As a counselor and teacher, Catherine has developed an eclectic, solution-focused, person-centered approach to working with individuals and groups to initiate growth and change. Her interests are in college student identity development, career theory and practice, writing studies, and higher education.
