Due to the CORVID19 Pandemic, this contest has been postponed.

Submission Guidelines

The Writing, Speaking, and Argument Program is seeking design submissions from UR undergrads! We are looking for a visual design that represents our program’s brand identity across a range of materials, from social media profiles to poster, mugs, and t-shirts. The winning design will capture the spirit of our program and engage our audiences. (See below for details.)

Eligibility: Current University of Rochester undergraduates (individual or in team)

Prize: $100 (per individual or team) and authorship credit on our website

Submission Guidelines

  • One entry per student or team.
  • Please submit 2 designs: a social media profile image and banner/cover image.
  • Designs should be high-resolution images of at least 1500 x 1500 pixels in PNG (preferred), JPEG format, or vector artwork in PDF format.
  • The design must be completely your own work; no part of it may be taken from pre-existing work. Submissions using pre-existing and/or copyrighted designs, characters, or trademarks (including logos from the University of Rochester) will not be accepted.
  • All reproduction rights and usage rights of the winning entry will belong to the Writing, Speaking, and Argument Program.
  • Keep in mind our program’s primary audiences: current U of R undergraduates, graduate students, and faculty. Other important audiences include other writing programs, U of R administrators, alumni, and potential donors.

Judging & Selection: The review process will include a combination of popular voting and committee selection. If no submissions are selected, the Writing, Speaking, and Argument Program reserves the right to commission the design.

What we’re looking for. A successful design will...

  • Connect to our primary audiences. We are a welcoming and friendly resource for students who want to work on their writing and speaking. We are a resource for everyone, from first-year undergraduates to graduate students and faculty. We offer courses, tutoring, writing groups, and workshops. We also host special events that celebrate writing and teaching.
  • Express the spirit of our program. We are an interdisciplinary community of teachers, tutors, researchers, speakers, and writers. We provide a helpful, supportive space for writers and speakers at all levels.
  • Represent our program, minors, and clusters in the field of writing studies: In addition to teaching and tutoring, our faculty, staff, and students also guide and contribute to research in writing studies.
