Position Description for Instructor Mentor
(start date September 1,  2008)

Please note:
WRT 105 was formerly CAS 105.

CWP is searching for three advanced writing instructors to serve as mentors to a small group of incoming WRT 105 instructors.  Responsibilities include small group meetings, class observations, and individual support as needed. During both fall and spring semesters, mentors should

  • meet with other mentors and Deb/Tanya to establish purpose and guidelines for mentoring process, and update Deb/Tanya mid- and end- of semester,
  • meet with new instructors as a group during the first week of the fall and spring semesters to discuss how the first days of teaching are going and to offer support as needed,
  • observe each mentee twice during the first semester and once during the spring semester,
  • coordinate observations among those in the group: all mentees should observe the mentor's class and the class of at least one other mentor-group member,
  • discuss class observations with each mentee, and perhaps with the group as a whole,
  • share instructional materials, and more generally,
  • meet with the group approximately once a month to touch base and offer necessary individual support.

These mentor meetings will not replace Practicum meetings, but rather offer opportunities for new instructors to talk about teaching issues in a low-key context with more advanced instructors.

Compensation: $1000 stipend
