Graduate & Post-Graduate Positions


JOB TITLE:  Graduate Writing Project Co-Coordinator

This position’s primary responsibility involves working with the lead coordinator to organize writing support for graduate students in Arts, Sciences, and Engineering in three primary areas:

  • Dissertation Boot Camps (2-3 per summer; 1-2 per semester)
  • Writing Workshops (2-3 per semester, 2 during summer)
  • CWP Writing Groups (5 - 6 groups created by WSA Program per semester, additional groups initiated by graduate students)

During the academic year, the co-coordinator will help plan, prepare for, and facilitate these activities, which may include administering registration processes, coordinating speakers, scheduling writing tutors for Writing Groups and Boot Camps, and planning (and possibly moderating) orientations or information sessions for graduate students interested in writing support.

During the summer, the co-coordinator will help run the Dissertation Boot Camps, which may include administering the registration process, preparing materials, and helping to set up each day’s writing session. If the co-coordinator has experience with tutoring, s/he may also participate in the Boot Camp as a writing consultant. Please note that the Dissertation Boot Camp may take place during University breaks.

Other responsibilities include meeting regularly with the lead coordinator to coordinate activities, helping the coordinator to assess and adjust support for graduate-student writing, helping to train writing consultants to work with graduate-student writers in tutoring sessions and as part of the Boot Camps and Writing Groups, and working with Writing, Speaking, and Argument Program faculty and staff to ensure smooth functioning of the Graduate Writing Project.

Following a brief training period, this position will begin in September 2012.

Salary: $7000

Qualifications:  This position is open to all University of Rochester graduate students in good academic standing from any discipline and in any year of their program.  Candidates should be able to demonstrate that they have successfully written at the graduate level, and they should have experience teaching or tutoring in the Writing, Speaking, and Argument Program.  Please note that preference may be given to those with both teaching and tutoring experience.
