JOB TITLE: International Freshman Writing Boot Camp Adjunct Instructor

If there is a need based on student enrollment, the College will be hiring one or more instructors to teach an International Freshman Writing Boot Camp. This is a non-credit bearing pilot program this summer for incoming international freshmen. http://enrollment.rochester.edu/immersion/

The salary for teaching this course is: $3,000

Period of Instruction: July 27 – Aug 21, 2015

Prerequisite: Previous experience teaching WRT105E, WRT108, EAPP, or ECO at the University of Rochester. In accordance with the goals of the College, priority is given to applicants who will be teaching in the Writing, Speaking, and Argument Program in the fall semester and have experience in working with international students.

Job Description:

  1. Participate in course development and planning sessions prior to Camp
  2. Work with a curriculum that centers on the theme Sense of Place and Rochester’s History to prepare admitted U of R international freshmen to successfully transition into WRT105/WRT105E
  3. Offer class instruction from Monday–Thursday 9 am to 12 pm to approximately 10 students in one class
  4. Collaborate with other instructors to create a cohesive learning experience
  5. Attend one writing staff meeting per week
  6. Maintain and submit appropriate records of students’ performance including attendance, participation, and grades
  7. Confer with each student about his or her progress
  8. Advise each student in making their decision about fall writing placement in WRT105, WRT105E, WRT105A/B, or EAPP
  9. Attend orientation and program end celebrations (optional)
  10. Participate in group trips and activities (optional)
